I know there is a national uproar happening thanks to 2020. There’s been earth-shattering change to our daily lives, loss, rioting, racial injustice, loneliness, and Tiger King, just to name a few. And I would agree, this year has been overwhelming, to put it lightly.
Like all of you, my whole world was turned upside down this year, but I can’t say I’m mad. It’s actually been the best year for my family to date. The hard times were plentiful, don’t get me wrong, but who knew how badly we needed the world to change from fast forward to slow motion.
When we left for the hospital on March 5 at 11:00pm, we had no idea our lives were about to change so drastically. Not only were we going to bring home a new sweet baby girl the size of a loaf of bread, but we were entering into a new world of quarantine, social distancing, masks, toilet paper shortages, and NO DAYCARE, which all happened seemingly overnight!
A few months later, my husband, John, bravely decided to follow his dream of entrepreneurship and left his job to pursue a startup business. My day job of the last ten years is also undergoing a huge overhaul as we speak. Is it nerve racking? Yes. Has our quality of life drastically improved through all this uncertainty and change? Never thought I’d say this, but YES. So much.
I am so thankful for my completed family, spending all day, every day with my three puppies, work/life balance, the ability to work from home (or the beach, like I did so many times over the summer), more time with family (because we are leaning on them even more!), and cherishing the time we get to spend with friends, who we don’t get to see as often as we would like.
Sure, I’m welcoming 2021 with open arms, praying it comes with a little normalcy, but I challenge you to embrace this weird time that we are in right now. Life will never be this slow again. Soak up the long days with babies at home. Give yourself and others grace. Put your phone down and be fully present. Be thankful.
Thanks to Tara Hollow Photography for snapping these images and letting me edit them. These will be forever cherished in my home!
